SRINAGAR: The Army killed six militants while they were trying to infiltrate into north Kashmir on Sunday. The operation took place in Keran sector of Kupwara district, where Union home minister Rajnath Singh visited a few days ago and urged Pakistan to stop infiltration.

The Srinagar-based defense spokesperson, Col Rajesh Kalia, informed that the Army foiled a major infiltration attempt along the Line of Control in Keran , around 95kms from summer capital Srinagar, and at least six bodies of militants were found during the search operation.

Since May 16, when India announced suspension of operations, around 20 militants have been killed along LoC. During the intervening night of June 5 and 6, the Army killed three militants in Machil sector of north Kashmir. On May 27, five militants were killed in Tangdhar area.

The police sources claim that infiltration attempts have increased in last one month and some groups have successfully crossed the border and spread across the Valley. “We have recovered six bodies and search operation is going on. We are yet to get a detailed list of weapons recovered from the area,” Kalia told ET.
