NEW DELHI: Army chief General Dalbir Singh Suhag today paid homage to jawan who was killed in encounter with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir yesterday, by laying wreath on his mortal remains here.

Sawar Samod Kumar, of 2nd Lancers, was killed due to gunshot wound which he received during encounter with terrorists in Budh forest area of Bandipora district yesterday.

The 31-year-old jawan had completed eleven and half years of service and was posted with the Rashtriya Rifle battalion from May 2014.

Resident of Bhawanpura village in Mathura district, Kumar is survived by his wife and two sons (8 yrs and 6 yrs).

While usually the wreath is laid by the GOC Delhi area, Suhag has made it a point to lay his wreath on a martyr if he is present in Delhi.
