The release said, ‘Mangrol’ derives its name from the coastal town and minor port of Mangrol, located in the Junagadh district of Gujarat. The naval vessel also continues the legacy of erstwhile INS Mangrol, an Indian naval minesweeper that remained in service till 2004.
The Ministry further said the delivery of INS Mangrol marks another step in India's push to build warships domestically, as the government seeks to expand indigenous defence manufacturing and reduce reliance on foreign suppliers.
