Hidma is alleged to have orchestrated multiple attacks on police over the past 20 years.
According to earlier reports, he was among six who were gunned down in an ongoing security operation in Andhra Pradesh's Maredumili area.
In the police encounter, other than Hidma, a South Bastar Battalion member of the CCM, his wife Raje and four other guards were taken out between 6.30 am and 7 am, according to government sources.
"Yes, six Maoists were killed in an encounter in Alluri district today (Tuesday)," Bardar told new agency PTI.
"We have received information that Maoist leader Hidma is among the cadres killed on the Andhra Pradesh-Chhattisgarh border. It is a very important development," Chhattisgarh Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma told the press at state capital, Raipur.
Meanwhile, ET sources informed that the southern state's Special Investigation Branch carried out the operation on inputs of Maoist activity at the Andhra Pradesh-Chhattisgarh–Odisha border.
