Amid Manipur crisis, Defence secretary Giridhar Aramane visits Myanmar

As the situation in Manipur remains tense, defence secretary Giridhar Aramane visited Myanmar to meet the top military leadership and discuss concerns over cross border security.

The visit comes amid inputs that some of the weapons used to incite violence in Manipur came through Myanmar and terror groups have been using the porous border to conduct attacks.

"The two sides discussed issues related to maintenance of tranquillity in the border areas, illegal trans-border movements and transnational crimes such as drug trafficking and smuggling," defence ministry officials said.
