Ajanta-Inspired stitched ship INSV Kaundinya sets sail on maiden overseas voyage
INSV Kaundinya, the Indian Navy’s stitched sailing vessel recreated from depictions of ancient Indian ships in Ajanta Cave paintings, has embarked on its maiden overseas voyage from Porbandar in Gujarat to Muscat in Oman. Built using traditional stitched-plank techniques and natural materials, the 65-foot vessel is retracing historic maritime routes that once connected India with the wider Indian Ocean world. With 18 sailors onboard, the voyage showcases India’s maritime heritage while reinforcing long-standing cultural ties with Oman.
