The US military said the large-scale strikes aim to dismantle parts of Iran’s military structure that Washington considers an immediate threat. The campaign involves long-range bombers, stealth fighters, drones, missile defence systems and naval assets operating together in what appears to be one of the largest coordinated operations in recent years.
“CENTCOM launched Operation Epic Fury under the direction of the President of the United States. Its forces are targeting sites to dismantle Iran’s security apparatus, focusing on locations that present an imminent threat,” the command said on its X account.
Operation began before dawn
CENTCOM said the operation began at 1:15 am on February 28, though it did not specify the time zone in its summary.Since then, American forces have conducted a wide set of coordinated strikes across multiple locations. The military command did not provide specific details about the locations of the strikes but confirmed that the attacks targeted key elements of Iran’s military infrastructure.

Types of targets struck
According to CENTCOM, the strikes focused on critical parts of Iran’s military network.The command said US forces targeted command and control centres, integrated air defence systems, ballistic missile sites, naval ships and submarines, anti-ship missiles, military communication capabilities, and facilities involved in ballistic missile and drone manufacturing.
The update offers one of the first official snapshots of how the campaign has unfolded since it began, though the US military has not disclosed the exact locations of the strikes or the full extent of the damage on the ground.
