Last year also witnessed the second highest number of infiltration attempts- 371- since 2010. This comes at a time when terrorist violence in J&K is being linked to the infiltration from across the border.

88 youths joined militancy in J&K last year, highest since 2010
NEW DELHI: Eighty-eight youths joined militancy in Jammu and Kashmir last year, the highest figure in this regard since 2010. Last year also witnessed the second highest number of infiltration attempts- 371- since 2010. This comes at a time when terrorist violence in J&K is being linked to the infiltration from across the border.

The developments were shared by Minister of State for Home Affairs Hansraj Gangaram Ahir in the Lok Sabha today.

Answering a question raised in the Lok Sabha, Ahir gave out details of youths joining militancy from 2010 to 2016, based on the J&K government reports.

There were widespread protests in J&K following the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander, Burhan Wani, by security forces on July 8, 2016.

Ahir stated that J&K has been affected by terrorist violence, which is sponsored and supported from across the border. “The levels of terrorist violence in the hinterland of J&K are linked to the infiltration from across the border,” he said.
