New Delhi: Twenty-two Maoists surrendered before police in Odisha's Malkangiri district on Tuesday, officials said. The surrendered Maoists handed over nine firearms and 150 live rounds of ammunition, 20 kg of explosives, 13 improvised explosive devices, gelatin sticks and other articles in the presence of director general of police YB Khurania and other senior officers, they said.

Most of the surrendered Maoists hail from neighbouring Chhattisgarh but used to operate in Odisha, according to the officials.

The surrendered Maoists include divisional committee member Linge alias Myre Madkam (45) of Sukma district and Baman Madkam (27), an area committee member and commander hailing from Dantewada district in Chhattisgarh.

On November 27, the Odisha government revised its surrender policy, raising rewards for Maoists by 10% over those offered in neighbouring Chhattisgarh.
