2 infiltrators killed along Machil sector in Kashmir

The armed forces killed two infiltrators in Machil sector along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara district of northern Kashmir on Wednesday.

Around 8.30 am, the alert troops sighted infiltrators moving towards this side of the LoC, triggering an exchange of fire, the army said. "Intense firefight ensued, resulting in the elimination of two terrorists. Bodies of two terrorists have been recovered along with two AK series rifles, magazines and huge quantities of war-like stores," said a statement by the Army.

The armed forces laid an ambush in the area based on a specific intelligence input provided by the senior superintendent of police in Kupwara about likely infiltration from one of the militant launch pads across the LoC towards Machil sector, after which the troops were put on high alert from Monday.


"Identity of terrorists and affiliated terrorist group is being ascertained," said the statement.

Army officials said the successful intelligence-based operation was yet another example of close synergy between the Indian Army, J&K Police and other security agencies. "The security forces stand steadfast to defeat the nefarious designs of inimical elements supported by our adversary to disrupt peace and harmony of the area," said the Army.

According to the police, 11 militants have been killed in J&K this year and around 60 militants are active here, including 30 locals.
