India and China will hold the 19th round of talks at the corps commander level on Monday, ahead of next month's G20 summit in India next and BRICS summit in South Africa.

Talks will be held at the Chushul-Moldo border meeting point and efforts will be made to take forward proposals for withdrawal of Chinese troops from the Line of Actual Control (LAC), said people with knowledge of the matter.

The last round of talks at this level were held in April, without resulting in a breakthrough. After the talks, India had said that an in-depth discussion took place on restoring peace which would enable progress in bilateral relations.

Describing the talks as "frank and in-depth", the Indian side issued a statement at the time, saying both countries had agreed to maintain stability on the ground.

The situation on the border remains tense as more than 50,000 troops from both sides remain deployed. The two major issues taken up last time were the deployment of Chinese troops in Depsang plains, which has cut off access for Indian troops to traditional patrolling routes, and the pitching of tents at Demchock, at a place that India perceives to be its side of the border.-OPB
