NEW DELHI: Israeli air-to-water technology company WaterGen has signed a memorandum of understanding with Indian solar engineering firm Vikram Solar to bring its unique drinkable water solutions to India.

The deal is valued roughly at a minimum $100 million, said Michael Mirilashvili, president, WaterGen. WaterGen machines can extract moisture out of air, turning it into water of drinking quality.

The water produced out of this machine is 100% safe and can pass every regulatory test, he said.

“It is a very interesting marriage and we are looking forward to working with Gyanesh Chaudhary and his team at Vikram Solar to expand our footprint in India,” Mirilashvili said.

Mirilashvili announced the MoU on the sidelines of the 3rd edition of the Global Business Summit presented by YES Bank and The Economic Times in New Delhi.

“It is the birth right of every person in this world to enjoy the most basic human necessity of clean and pure drinking water, regardless of geographical location, skin colour or religious belief,” said Mirilashvili.

“During times of uncertainty, it is the highly innovative and competitive products and services that will gain strength and stability, now and in the future. We must also drive skill development and training,” said Manasi Kirloskar, executive director of Kirloskar Systems.

The Israeli innovation is especially relevant for a country like India, which lacks both sufficient and quality drinking water and, in some areas, the electricity required to generate water out of such a machine.
