Mumbai: Elon Musk has just crossed a milestone that once seemed unimaginable. With SpaceX's debut in the capital markets unlocking unprecedented value, Musk has become the world's first trillionaire. However, Anand Mahindra, chairman, Mahindra Group, believes the real story lies beyond the valuation.

Reflecting on Musk's achievement, the Mahindra Group Chairman shared a perspective with ET that cuts through the excitement surrounding the milestone.

"I reached out to Elon in 2018 because innovators are often judged in their toughest moments, not their finest hours. What impressed me then was his resilience. The headlines today are about a trillion-dollar milestone. The real story is that he never stopped believing that today's impossibility could become tomorrow's reality."

It's a reminder that extraordinary success is often judged in retrospect, while extraordinary conviction is tested in real time.

Mahindra's reference was to a period in 2018 when Musk was facing intense scrutiny. Tesla was battling production challenges, critics were questioning its future, and confidence in Musk's vision was far from universal.
