What Dec 28 holds for Mukesh & Anil

MUMBAI: Sea Wind, the tony Ambani residence at Cuffe Parade in Mumbai, will be buzzing with activity on Thursday, the 74th birth anniversary of the late Dhirubhai Ambani.
Both the Ambani brothers will start their day early paying homage to their late father. Though stories have been doing the rounds in the past few weeks about new launches that may be announced on the day, it is unlikely that the brothers will announce any mega plans.
Sources close to the group point out that there will be no special announcements as Mukesh and Anil Ambani had earlier agreed not to use Dhirubhai’s birthday for any commercial benefit. A source close to the group said, “Dhirubhai’s photographs are not used during the launch of any Reliance group products or services. This rule has been followed strictly for all recent launches like retail outlets or mobile phones.”
Market sources say the Mukesh Ambani group is busy giving shape to Reliance’s retail dreams and is expected to inaugurate Reliance Retail’s first hyper market in Delhi. But a source in Reliance told ET, “It would be a routine affair for Mukesh Ambani. There is nothing special planned, at least not to my knowledge. He will spend the day in Mumbai.”
A source in Reliance-Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (RADAG ) says the junior Ambani is hosting a lunch for his friends, including some investment bankers. Reliance officials declined to comment on the issue. The last mega announcement on December 28 was in 2002, when Reliance Infocomm was launched before the group broke up into two divisions.
