Vistara has been under fire from its customers after being forced to cancel flights over the last few days due to unavailability of pilots.
The airline has been forced to cancel 10% of their flights for the month of April to recoup from the disruption.
Vistara operates around 350 flights per day.
Kannan accepted that the airline faced significant operational disruption from 31 March to 2 April due to multiple reason primary among which was a stretched utilisation of pilots.
"We were stretched in our pilot rosters and there was not enough resilience to withstand injects that we would otherwise have weathered, " he said.
Multiple first officers of Vistara had hit the limit of 100 hours of allowed flying per month, leaving the airline without any buffer leaving the airline little opportunity to recoup from the disruption.
He added that the airline could have planned better, and this has been a learning experience for them which it will review thoroughly.
"The anxiety and frustration felt by our customers was matched in even measure to the pain that all of us felt in seeing our much-loved brand drawing negative commentary from various quarters, " Kannan wrote.
He counted multiple other reasons behind the disruption, including Air Traffic Control delays, bird hits, and maintenance activities which created a cascading effect on the network.
Kannan is confident that Vistara will bounce back stronger.
"While the events of the last week may seem like a setback, the hallmark of our organization has always been that we have bounced back from tough situations and emerged stronger, " he said.
