VADODARA: The district administration constituted a committee to review and strengthen safety measures in various industrial units situated in the region following a fire mishap at the Gujarat Refinery on July 16 that killed one person.

Collector Vinod Rao announced the panel on the demand raised by BJP MP Balkrishna Shukla.

Vadodara has been fast emerging as the industrial hub. Companies like Gujarat State Fertilisers & Chemicals (GSFC), IPCL--now owned by Reliance Industries limited--and Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals Limited (GACL) have come up in the district over a period of time and are drawing their fuel and feedstock supply from Gujarat Refinery.

Besides, hundreds of small and medium scale units are located in the industrial estates located at Nandesari, Makarpura, Ajwa Road, Waghodiya and other places in the region.

"Periodic review of safety measures undertaken by the industries is necessary to prevent recurring of incidents like that of July 16," Shukla said.
