UltraTech's Gautam Chainani may join JSW as group HR president

JSW Group is expected to appoint Gautam Chainani as its group president, human resources, marking the first few management changes brought in after scion Parth Jindal joined the steel-to-power conglomerate in June, according to multiple people familiar with the matter.

Chainani will join from Aditya Birla Group's cement company UltraTech, where he is serving his notice period. His tenure of eight years with the group ends on September 30.

At UltraTech, Chainani was responsible for directing, le ading, guiding human resources strategy and practices.Before joining the group, he was vice president for human resources with credit card firm American Express.

Gautam Chainani brings with himself the experience of working with a manufacturing and labour-intensive industry. His familiarity of being associated with a diversified business family-led corporate makes him a right fit for the Sajjan Jindal-led group, according to sources.

 Aditya Birla Group confirmed Chainani's resignation, while JSW Group did not reply to a mail seeking comments on the appointment.

Parth Jindal, who takes keen interest in HR, technology , cements and sports, was involved in the hiring process. He is known to build his own team for businesses and functions he wishes to manage. JSW Group has also hired Dheeraj Sinha from Apollo Tyres in July as group chief information officer replacing Nikhil Chaturvedi who left the conglomerate to rejoin SAP in May .

The HR department at JSW Group is busy setting a new work culture, build a second line of talent, create leadership development programmes and training & development.The conglomerate is readying for the next phase of growth through acquisitions and bigger capacities besides starting an industrial paints business.

Chainani's predecessor Yugesh Goutam left the group earlier this year to join Lupin as president, Global Human Resources.
