Bangalore: The two Sudhas of Infosys are now ahead of Biocon CMD Kiran Mazumdar Shaw in the richest women sweepstakes. While Sudha Gopalakrishnan, the wife of Infy COO Kris Gopalakrishnan had trumped Mazumdar Shaw a while ago, thanks to the gyrations in the market, Sudha Murthy — wife of NR Naryana Murthy — has also now overtaken the Biocon chief to emerge as the second richest woman in the country.

Mazumdar Shaw has a 39.6% stake in the country’s largest biotech firm. The comparison in the value of holdings, it must be mentioned here, is restricted to holdings in their personal names/capacity and doesn’t include other promoter holdings.

This is best reflected in case of Biocon where Glentec International (a firm in which Ms Shaw’s spouse John Shaw is a majority shareholder) has a 19.77% stake in the company. On June 9, even as the Sensex rose by a whopping 515 points (5.54%), Sudha Murthy, who has a 1.93% stake (or 5.31 million shares) in Infosys, saw her holdings valued at Rs 1,483.95 crore.

The Infosys scrip had closed at Rs 2,794.65(or up 3.36% on the NSE). Ms Kiran Mazumdar Shaw’s 39.6 million shares were worth Rs 1,395.3 crore, indicating that Ms Sudha Murthy’s value of holdings was higher by 6.35%. The Biocon scrip closed at Rs 352.35 on NSE (or up 4.57%).

Ms Sudha Gopalakrishnan’s 2.55% (0.701 million shares) holding in Infosys places her at the top among the three women, with the holding being valued at Rs 1,959.04 crore.

For the year ended March 31, 2006, Infosys, besides announcing a 170% final dividend, will also be giving a 1:1 bonus to its shareholders. The scrip had touched a 52-week high of Rs 3,449, while the 52-week low stood at Rs 2,125.2.

Biocon’s 52-week high was Rs 536, while the 52-week low stood at Rs 325.5. Biocon’s board has announced a final dividend of Rs 2.5 (50% on the Rs 5 face value share).

With Infosys having $2 billion in revenues, the board has also announced a special silver jubilee dividend. The total dividend bonanza for the shareholders will be a whopping 900% or Rs 45 (on the Rs 5 face value share). The Infy price is cum-bonus at this point of time.
