Top management of PSUs like ONGC, BHEL to embark on study tour to Europe

NEW DELHI: Top management of PSUs like ONGC, and BHEL are expected to visit Europe on a two-week tour to interact with experts and management academicians on the best global practices to lead their companies more efficiently, PSUs' apex body has said.

The Standing Conference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE) is organising a programme titled ' Advanced Global Leadership Programme' in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIM-C).

"About 20 CPSEs including NTPC, BHEL, ONGC and HAL have confirmed their participation in the programme," SCOPE Director General U D Choubey told reporters today.

The three-week programme would be held in two phases. While the phase-I of the programme would be held at IIM-C and SCOPE Convention Centre here for a week, the phase-II would comprise of a study tour to European countries - Germany, Paris and Geneva, he added.

During the tour, CPSEs' executives would interact with experts, researchers and management academicians to take a cue from them on practices prevailing in the international market, Choubey said.

The top management of CPSEs would be given guidance on how to do business in foreign markets, developing strategies for international expansion and ways to remain globally competitive, while following highest standards of corporate governance, he said.

With more and more PSUs setting their sights on global markets, SCOPE said it has become imperative that top management of state-owned units acquire international perspective and approach to lead the enterprises effectively.

PSUs including Coal India, ONGC and GAIL are looking at expanding their global footprint.

Further, Choubey said that after the programme, SCOPE would submit a report to the Department of Public Enterprises on these experiences for its consideration.
