Top HUL executive resigns
Hindustan Unilever's (HUL) executive director (legal and company secretary), Ashok Gupta, has tendered his resignation.
Gupta (51) was with HUL for around 20 years. After acquiring a masters degrees in commerce & laws, and having qualified as a company secretary and cost accountant , Gupta joined Unilever India in 1989 as legal manager (in Lipton India ). He moved to HUL in Mumbai in 1993 where he held various assignments ranging from restructuring indirect taxation portfolio, mergers and amalgamations and securing intellectual property rights.
Gupta was then seconded to Unilever at London for a period of two years to act as senior legal adviser for Central Asia, Middle East and Africa Region.
He came back to Unilever India and became the company secretary in the year 2005, in addition to providing partnership role from legal to home and personal care business. Among other recent changes at the management committee of HUL was the appointment of R Sridhar as chief financial officer. Sridhar took over from D Sundaram who retired in July 2009.
