Those inseparable gadgets

You know a lot about star tantrums, its time now to know about their personal technology preferences. Read on as Bollywood actress Dia Mirza and former Miss Asia Pacific unearths her tech tool kit.

Dazzling Dia and geeky gadgets, do they mix well? “One has to be tech savvy in today’s world and most people, including me, are. Don’t know why people have a perception that women are not very gadget friendly,” she says. She uses two phones - one for official needs and the other for personal use.

“The phone that I use for official purpose is switched on only from 6 am to 9 pm.’’ Now that’s what tech-management is all about. “People today don’t have mobile etiquette, they call on your cell phone whenever they feel like, that’s why I switch off my work phone when the work hours get over,” she explains.

At present, she is using Nokia N series mobile phone and is looking forward to Samsung’s metal series - the product that the diva herself launched. Her favourite gadget is the iPod. “I and my iPod are inseparable,” she exclaims. She uses her Mac laptop for editing videos shot on her Sony handycam. “I shoot lot of ‘behind the scenes’ videos on my film sets,” she says. Candid photography! Now that’s the kind of stuff we expect from a tech savvy actress.

So any guesses how many e-mails the lady receives in a day. “Oh! around 150,” she sighs. But hey its not those fan mails but spam mails which have taken Dia’s breath away. “I keep getting spam mails which claim that you have won a million dollar lottery,’ she says. When it comes to replying she for sure replies to around 20-25 e-mails per day.

And is she an SMS freak, we pop the question as we all know that generation X thrives on messaging. “Well no, I prefer making a call, until its imperative to send a message,” she says. When our tech talk reaches to a more sophisticated stage she says, “Telecom is taking voice culture to a new level. One can watch and even edit movies on a phone. In the near future we will be using cell phones as our credit card and even as our passport.”

So isn’t technology amazing? “Well yes but I wonder what’s going to happen if one loses his or her cell phone,” she giggles. Of course, if you have the mobile tracker system in your phone you will be less hassled, she adds. Now here is a woman who has it all figured out.
