The Brand Equity Quiz 2012: TCS Chennai wins BE quiz

MUMBAI: “Every year Americans junk $80 million worth of gold, silver, copper, plutonium and palladium in what form?”

This was the question that finally decided the winners of the Idea Brand Equity Quiz 2012, the biggest corporate quizzing event this side of the Suez, before a thousand tensed quiz buffs. And the winners: The TCS team from Chennai.

Deviprasad Vishwanathan and Jayakanthan Ranganathan of TCS Chennai edged out husbandwife duo G Sreekanth and Pallavi Mohanty from TCS Bengaluru 115-110 in the grand finale held in the sprawling National Centre for Performing Arts auditorium in Mumbai on Wednesday.

The other two teams to make it to the final after two semi-finals were TCS Mumbai and Goabased ad agency Savoir Faire.

Quizmaster Derek O’Brien was at his usual best and kept the teams and the audience engaged throughout the evening, offering both prizes and repartees in abundance.

Often the questions were seemingly difficult, but the answers were necessarily not. Sample this: which singer was appointed as Polaroid’s creative director? Lady Gaga; which designer invented costume jewellery? Coco Chanel; who is Raj in Yash Raj films? Rajesh Khanna; which US company’s slogan was ‘world wise’? Lehman Brothers. Idea 3G powered the Idea Brand Equity Quiz 2012 and Mahindra Scorpio was the grand prize sponsor. The television partner was ET Now.
