Tata Sons says Cyrus Mistry has caused ‘enormous harm’ to Tata Group and TCS

MUMBAI: Tata Sons said Cyrus Mistry had made unsubstantiated allegations which cast aspersions not just on Tata Sons Ltd but also Tata Consultancy Services and the group as a whole, as it explained its move to remove him as chairman of the IT firm.

Mistry’s conduct had caused enormous harm to the Tata Group, the conglomerate said in a filing made by TCS on its call for an extraordinary general body meeting to oust Mistry as a director.

“Mr. Mistry’s conduct has caused enormous harm to the Tata group, TCSL and its stakeholders, including employees and shareholders,” Tata Sons explanatory note said in TCS’ filing with the BSE. It added that an email from Mistry to the Tata Sons board was made public though it was marked ‘confidential.’

Last week, the TCS board set December 13 as the date for an EGM to remove Mistry as a director of the company. Tata Sons had already removed Mistry as chairman of TCS earlier this year, when it nominated Ishaat Hussain to the role.

Hussain is expected to remain in that post until Tata Sons appoints a permanent chairman.

Tata Sons has asked for shareholders’ meetings in other companies such as Indian Hotels, Tata Steel, Tata Motors and Tata Chemicals. Mistry has also been removed as chairman of Tata Global Beverages.
