TCS BPO head Abid Ali Neemuchwala quits company after a 23 year stint

BANGALORE/MUMBAI: Tata Consultancy Services’ head of business process outsourcing, Abid Ali Neemuchwala, has quit the company, sources with knowledge of the matter told ET.

Neemuchwala has spent about 23 years at India’s largest software company and was appointed to the head of the BPO unit in 2009.

Neemuchwala has been spearheading the company’s move to greater automation in the business process unit and has grown TCS’ BPO contribution from 6.9% of revenue in FY09 to 12% in FY14. TCS reported revenue of $13.4 billion for FY14.

TCS confirmed the resignation in a statement to ET. “Mr. A. Neemuchwala has decided to pursue his career interest outside TCS. We wish him well for the future,” a TCS spokesperson said.

TCS is neck-and-neck with Genpact in terms of revenue from business process outsourcing. The company had set a target of reaching $3 billion in BPO revenue in 5 years in 2009. It is still expected to reach at goal at the end of the current fiscal year.

TCS had bulked up its BPO division with the acquisition of Citibank’s back-office unit at the depths of the financial crisis.
