SOX up, new hot jobs are here
Teachers, actuarial officers, SOX skills specialists etc. are today favourite with the headhunters.
“Hot jobs keep changing every year, however people with specialist skills are always in high demand,” says E Balaji, executive director, Ma Foi Consultants.
Giving the example of an actuarial officer, he adds the rise in number of insurance policies has seen demand for such officers increasing while the supply shortage is 28%. Acturial officers, who work in insurance companies, are responsible for fixing the premium amount of policies and risk management.
Other hot careers include teachers, transition managers or migration specialists in BPOs and project managers in real estate, according to HR consultants. “It is well-known that there is lot of demand for people in the IT, retail, hospitality and biotech sectors. However, we are now seeing enquiries for job profiles like project managers, as more and more real estate companies are turning professional organisations and teachers with the mushrooming of international schools,” says Nirupama VG, associate director, TeamLease. There is a shortage of supply even among the big organised recruiting companies, who are looking to add a minimum of 2,000 people this year, she adds.
According to Mr Balaji, another category in demand is the SOX skills specialist, what with several MNCs outsourcing their accounting and auditing jobs to companies based in India. The Sarbanes-Oxley Act of ’02, commonly called SOX, is a US federal law passed in response to a number of major corporate and accounting scandals involving prominent companies in the US.
Of course, the regulars like sales representatives, accountants, customer service professionals are still hot going by the numbers, adds Ms Nirupama. A recent survey by Manpower indicated a very robust hiring trend in India for the third quarter of ’06, with the country leading in terms of hiring intentions among the 25 nations surveyed.
The positive outlook spreads across all sectors including services, mining and construction, transportation & utilities sector.
