South Africa to follow 'Amul' model

AHMEDABAD: South Africa is looking for technical know-how to replicate the white revolution based on the dairy co-operative Amul model .

“This is quite an experience and this must be replicated in South Africa. This is the answer to poverty problems facing by our communities. What a lesson to be learnt that from humble beginning you can change the face of the world," said High Commissioner of South Africa to India,Harris Sithembile Majeke.

On Tuesday, a high powered delegation led by Mr Majeke and South Africa,counselor – political, Mvuyo Mhangwane, visited Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation Limited (GCMMF), Anand and Amul Dairy, Anand to understand the “Amul” model of dairy Co-operatives.

Mr Majeke added that they would need support of knowledge sharing from GCMMF so that the model could be replicated in South Africa. The dignitaries were briefed on the history of Amul and vital role played by Dr. V Kurien, the father of White Revolution in building of this movement.The delegation also noted the growth achieved by GCMMF which is
now 10,000 crores (2 billion USD) entity.

R S Sodhi, MD, GCMMF said that our farmers would be happy to share knowledge and skill
to any farmer of the world without any expectations and assured all possible help from the
network of institution in Gujarat.
