Sir Dorabji Tata's 156th birth anniversary celebrated

JAMSHEDPUR: Private steel major Tata Steel today celebrated the 156th birth anniversary of its first Chairman Sir Dorabji Tata at Sir Dorabji Tata Park here.

T V Narendran, Managing Director (India and South East Asia) and R Ravi Prasad, President, Tata Workers' Union paid homage to the legend by offering floral tributes. The function was attended by the senior officials of Tata Steel along with Heads of Tata Group Companies and employees, a Tata Steel press release said.

Speaking on the occasion, Narendran said, "In many different ways there is a lot to learn from Dorab Tata. He realized the dreams of his father .... and it was his commitment and passion which got us here over last 100 years. Tata Steel as a steel plant and Jamshedpur as a city exist because of his vision''.

"In many different ways we can take leadership lessons from that point of time... they did not have resources like proper communication, vehicles during the time that they decided to set up a steel plant here more than a 100 years back", he stated.

Narendran also stated that "In the interests of shareholders he pledged his wife's jewelery which shows commitment not only to sharerholders, but also in building credibility of the organization. He engaged with the community.. promoted welfare activities and sports. It becomes our responsibility to strengthen his values and beliefs."

Ravi Prasad, President Tata Workers Union also spoke on the occasion.
