Shapoorji Mistry, Chairman, of the Shapoorji Pallonji Group which owns 18.3% stake in Tata Sons said the Mistry family has had a long standing relationship with the Tata Group and with Ratan Tata. "Mr. Tata’s unfortunate passing marks the end of an era. He will always be remembered as a leader who left a lasting mark on the evolution of the Tata Group. We offer our heartfelt condolences to his family, loved ones and the whole Tata fraternity. May his soul rest in peace".

Historically strained, particularly after the fallout between Ratan Tata and the late Cyrus Mistry, the relationship between the two major shareholders has been marred by mistrust and conflict. However, with both key figures no longer in the picture, there is a possibility that the lines of communication may open up, potentially paving the way for a resolution that could allow the Mistry family to exit their stake in Tata Sons on more amicable terms.

Ratan Tata, who led the country's largest conglomerate, the Tata group, for over 30 years, passed away on Wednesday evening due to age-related illnesses. He was 86.

He was admitted to Breach Candy hospital in Mumbai a few days ago.

Ratan Tata is remembered for his audacious bets in businesses that created a global footfront for the group, philanthropic zeal, and strong convictions, was the only person to head the parent company Tata Sons as well as the Tata Trusts which controlled the unlisted holding firm.
