Iyer was brought into Shantha in 2011 from Biocon at a time when the vaccine unit was facing action from WHO for its pentavalent vaccines.

MUMBAI - Harish Iyer, CEO at Hyderabad-based vaccines maker Shantha Biotechnics and part of French multinational drug maker Sanofi has recently quit the company. He will move to Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation as Senior Advisor to manage its scientific programs.

Iyer was brought into Shantha in 2011 from Biocon at a time when the vaccine unit was facing regulatory action from World Health Organization for its paediatric pentavalent vaccines.

After corrective steps, the vaccines were approved for supplies in 2014 which resumed earlier this year.

Harish Iyer has worked in global biotech drug makers like Biogen Idec in the US before moving to India.
