New Delhi: In the ongoing inheritance dispute involving late industrialist Sunjay Kapur's estate, the Supreme Court on Thursday refused to restrain his wife from convening a board meeting of Raghuvanshi Investment, as sought by his mother.

The court, however, said the agenda items for the appointment of two new independent directors and changing of the signatory for the company's bank accounts should not be taken up during the May 18 meeting.

A bench of Justices JB Pardiwala and Ujjal Bhuyan asked Kapur's wife, Priya, also not to do anything that will directly impact the upcoming mediation proceedings to resolve the disputes over the ownership of RK Family Trust.

While the apex court on May 7 appointed former Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud to act as a mediator in the dispute, Kapur's mother, Rani, approached the court last Tuesday, asking it to stay the proposed board meeting and stop her daughter-in-law from interfering with the functioning of RK Family Trust, Raghuvanshi Investment and other entities. The trust and Raghuvanshi Investment hold stakes in automotive component manufacturer Sona Comstar (Sona BLW Precision Forgings).

"Time and again we have said it will be in the interest of all parties to put an end to this dispute, else it will be a long-drawn battle," Justice Pardiwala said, reiterating the parties to settle the case amicably.

"She (Rani) is an 80-year-old woman. We all came with empty hands and we have to go with empty hands. All we carry is our souls. There has to be a will to settle the matter," the judge said, adding: "Don't go before the mediator with a heavy heart just because the court has pushed us. Each one of you try."
