SAIL chairman C S Verma gets IIM-JRD Tata award

NEW DELHI: SAIL chairman C S Verma has received the IIM-JRD Tata award for excellence in corporate leadership in metallurgical industries for the year 2014.

The award, instituted by Tata Steel in 2007, the centenary year of the private sector steel maker and diamond jubilee year of the Indian Institute of Metals, had so far been given to industry champions like Ratan N Tata and E Sreedharan to name a few, SAIL said in a release today.

Union Steel and Mines Minister Narendra Singh Tomar presented the award in Pune last Friday that also carries a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh.

Tomar said the government would soon be making a research centre where all steel companies in India will contribute for carrying out path-breaking research.
