NEW DELHI: Rural Electrification Corporation Ltd (RECL) has donated 50 laptops with special assistance software for the visually impaired to the Jawaharlal Nehru University as part of its corporate social responsibility programme.

The laptops are preloaded with the JAWS (job access with speech) screen reader which provides speech and Braille output for most of the computer applications.

JAWS has been developed for computer users whose vision loss prevents them from seeing screen content or navigating with a mouse.

“There are many brilliant and deserving students who, given the right educational opportunities, would be an asset to the nation. We must strive to remove all obstacles that may prevent them from achieving their true potential,” said Professor Sudhir Kumar Sopory, chancellor of JNU.

Recently JNU also launched a bus specially designed for those with visual and physical disabilities.
