MUMBAI: Billionaire Mukesh Ambani on Friday said Reliance Industries group will emerge as a "successful multinational" by focusing on overseas business.

Addressing over 40,000 employees of the group through a web-cast on the occasion of group founder Dhirubhai Ambani's 75th birth anniversary today, Mukesh said: "We will go global ...We will have to imbibe and work on vision of Dhirubhai."

Mukesh, who heads the largest Indian conglomerate with a value of over Rs 5,00,000 crore, or about seven per cent of the total market capitalisation of all listed companies in India, outlined future plans focusing on global expansion.

"Dhirubhai felt whatever is good for India is good for the world and therefore the strategies will have to be aligned accordingly," Mukesh said.

Incidentally, today is also the birthday of Ratan Tata, who heads the country's second biggest conglomerate.

The two groups account for over 10 per cent of the total wealth created at the bourses, and Tatas have emerged as the most prolific takeover and acquisition specialist from the country, spreading their wings in Africa, Europe and America.

While Ratan Tata celebrated a quiet birthday by going on a vacation, Mukesh Ambani exhorted the Reliance family to give their best for emerging a global player. However, there was no news of any celebration at younger brother's group.

However, group officials scotched rumours that there was an across-the-board hike in pay and perks on the occasion.

The stock market also cheered the two birthdays with all the Reliance shares, belonging to both Mukesh and Anil Ambani groups, posting gains, while a total of 21 stocks from 30 listed Tata group companies also registered gains.
