RIL is understood to be tying up with cold storage chains and has held early talks with AstraZeneca and Gamaleya, the maker of Sputnik-V vaccine.
In what might be the biggest vaccination drive by a company, oil-to-retail conglomerate Reliance Industries (RIL) has signed contracts for sourcing vaccines from Bharat Biotech and Serum Institute for potentially 1.3 million persons, which includes its own employees as well as those of its partners such as BP and Google. This number includes employees of RIL and its subsidiaries, notably Jio and Reliance Retail. Officials said the vaccination offer is also open to employees of all significant investors in the company who are keen to be vaccinated.

RIL has also extended the vaccination programme to family members of its employees. Further, all retired RIL employees and their families will also be covered as part of the programme that will be rolled out in 880 cities, said officials close to the development. India’s most valuable company will pick up the tab.

This is part of its future plans to move into what these officials termed the community vaccination space, once its employees and those of its associates receive the jabs. The move is part of a broader strategy to deliver medical services digitally, said officials close to the development.

These initiatives will be integrated by RIL’s Jio Health Hub app JioH, which currently acts as an aggregator offering health services such as diagnostic tests and online doctor consultations from leading healthcare service providers.

Eligible employees and their family members will need to register on the CoWIN platform and then book slots on JioHealthHub for their chosen locations.

Reliance Life Sciences carries out 12,000 + RT-PCR tests daily between Mumbai and Jamnagar.

“RIL’s rapid and extensive vaccination planning will not only make its staff and their families safer, it will also substantially reduce the pressure on public health systems and help India counter the pandemic challenges more effectively,” a top group official told ET.
