Reliance's Jamnagar refinery, the conglomerate’s first, recently celebrated its 25th anniversary. Established on December 28, 1999, the refinery has grown into the world’s largest refining hub—an engineering marvel that embodies India’s industrial pride.

Initially, the project faced skepticism from global experts who doubted the feasibility of building a refinery of such scale in a remote, arid region without basic infrastructure like roads, electricity, or drinking water. Despite these challenges, Reliance founder Dhirubhai Ambani defied critics and transformed Jamnagar into a world-class industrial and technological hub.

Under Dhirubhai’s leadership, the refinery was constructed in just 33 months, overcoming obstacles such as severe cyclones and logistical challenges. His vision turned a desert-like landscape into a “Nandanwan,” a vibrant industrial oasis.

Today, the Jamnagar refinery complex houses some of the world’s largest units, including the Fluidised Catalytic Cracker (FCC), Coker, Alkylation, Paraxylene, Polypropylene, Refinery Off-Gas Cracker (ROGC), and Petcoke gasification plants.
