Reliance Communications Gujarat subscribers to shift from 2G to 4G
NEW DELHI: Reliance Communications is shifting its subscribers to 4G in Gujarat circle, it said Thursday, as its 2G spectrum is set to expire this month end.

As per Trai data of July end, RCom had 5.4 million customers in the circle.

"We wish to inform that the company has initiated migration of its customers in Gujarat circle to an all 4G network, prior to the expiry of 2G spectrum in that circle end September 2017," the Anil Ambani owned company told BSE Thursday.

The expiry is scheduled since the 2G spectrum has a 20-year license, which ends in a fortnight.

As of 11 20 am the company's shares on BSE were down 2.29% to Rs 21.35. On Wednesday, telecom equipment maker Ericsson petitioned the National Company Law Tribunal seeking the start of bankruptcy proceedings against RCom and two of its subsidiaries - Reliance Infratel and Reliance Telecom - over total unpaid dues of Rs 1,150 crore.

RCom is undergoing a merger with Aircel but has faced a number of hurdles in the way. If Ericsson's plea is accepted by the NCLT, it will be another big spanner in the ongoing deal.
