Ramky Enviro launches Chhattisgarh's largest solid waste plant

Ramky Enviro Engineers (REEL), one of Asia’s largest environmental solutions provider controlled by the global private equity giant KKR, has on Wednesday launched Chhattisgarh’s largest solid waste management plant at Raipur.

The new plant, spread across 67 acres of land with a capacity to manage 700 tons a day of solid waste with a potential to generate 12 megawatt of power, was inaugurated by chief minister Bhupesh Baghel.

REEL had set up the plant at an outlay of Rs 197 crore under a 15-year contract entered into with the Municipal Corporation of Raipur at Sakri near Raipur city. Ramky is currently operating the processing plant and scientific landfill at the location built under public private partnership model.


The plant has capacity to manage 700 to 1,000 tons of waste a day, said REEL joint managing director Masood Mallick in a statement. “This facility marks as a milestone in the progress trajectory of Chhattisgarh as it holds the potential to be the state’s first waste-to-power generation plant.”

Raipur Mayor Aijaz Dhebar said the Chhattisgarh’s largest solid waste management plant was inaugurated at a time when the Covid-19 pandemic continues to spread, impacting human health and economy. “We look forward to a successful collaboration that not only provides us with a state-of-the-art solid waste management plant but also holds the potential to enable power generation that can further be utilized for the city of Raipur.”
