Raj West Power plans cement, alternate energy units

Raj West Power Ltd (RWPL) says it will set up a two million tonne cement plant and a 100 MW non-conventional energy unit in Rajasthan.

NEW DELHI: Raj West Power Ltd (RWPL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of JSW Energy Ltd, on Friday said it will set up a two million tonne cement plant and a 100 MW non-conventional energy unit in Rajasthan.

The company also said its 1,000 MW thermal power plant at Barmer to be set up with an investment of Rs 5,000 cr is also expected to be operational by October next year.

"We are looking at setting up a cement plant by utilising fly ash generated from our Barmer power project and limestone from Jaiselmer along with operational and maintenance (O&M) services in the state," RWPL Chairman N K Jain said.

Besides, the company is also looking to set up a 100 MW power generating facility using non-conventional energy sources like solar and wind in the state, he said.

Jain, however, declined to disclose investments for the cement and non-conventional energy units.

He also said the company was looking at offering O&M services to the state's other power plants.

"The major part of the 1,186 acres land required for the power project has already been acquired and site activities have commenced," he said.

The company would go for a further expansion of power generation capacity of the power plant, which is located at Bhadresh in Barmer, by 500 MW in the second phase.
