PSUs' body calls for leadership grooming

Public sector companies with 650 board-level posts need to groom managers for top leadership so that the issue of succession is easier to tackle.

NEW DELHI: Public sector companies with 650 board-level posts need to groom managers for top leadership so that the issue of succession is easier to tackle, the chief of PSUs body SCOPE, Arup Roy Choudhury, said today.

"There are about 650 board level posts across the public sector and each PSU should identify five or six talented managers who are capable of becoming directors," Choudhury, the Chairman of Standing Conference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE) said at a programme organised jointly with International Management Institute (IMI).

In all, there are 242 Central Public Sector Enterprises in the country.

SCOPE Director General U D Choubey said there was a need for separation of ownership and management. Ownership should not transgress into the managerial domain and there should be a balance between autonomy and state control.
