Numaligarh Refinery Limited dedicates a 20-seater passenger boat to Majuli
The boat will ferry passengers between Neematighat in mainland Jorhat to the banks of Majuli cutting down commuting time.

GUWAHATI: Numaligarh Refinery Limited ( NRL) dedicated a 20-seater passenger boat to the people of Majuli- the world’s largest riverine island in the river Brahmaputra .
The boat was handed over by Managing Director, Numaligarh Refinery Limited to the Majuli Civil Administration on May 4, 2013 at Kamalabari Ghat in Majuli on the banks of river Brahmaputra in presence of Minister of Water Resources, Government of Assam, Rajib Lochan Pegu.
The boat will ferry passengers between Neematighat in mainland Jorhat to the banks of Majuli cutting down commuting time and offering better comfort than the conventional ferry service that remains the only mode of communication with the mainland for the common people of Majuli.
The boat weighing 2.00 MT was manufactured by M/s Matha Marines, Kochi, Kerala. The boat is 12 m in length with two out board 140 HP engines. Considering the safety aspect of the onboard passengers, the boat is well equipped with 4 numbers of Life Buoy and sufficient numbers of Life jackets.
This is the second such initiative of the Company for the people of Majuli adopted under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policy.
