HYDERABAD: This one is for making government babus eSmart. Hyderabad-based National Institute of Smart Government (NISG), a government advisory body on e-governance, has tied up with the TA Pai Management Institute, Manipal (Tapmi), to roll out a one-year management programme that will offer specialisation in e-governance.

The programme, for which NISG will lend its domain expertise, will be launched later this year for public sector and government officers and consultants who work on public-private-partnership (PPP) projects. The programme, which will cost prospective candidates Rs 5.5 lakh, would have a class size of 40.

Talking to ET, NISG chief executive officer J Satyanarayana said, we have structured a programme to cater to the growing field of e-governance. Most states and the Centre are adopting e-governance in a big way and training in this sphere, therefore, assumes importance.

The NISG, which has been involved in landmark projects like BangaloreOne and eSeva, has on its priority list at least a dozen mission mode projects. At the state level, the institute is working on a single window citizen service portal for the Delhi government called Jeevan, an upgraded version of eSeva for Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Berhampur in Orissa and a land information system project in Andhra Pradesh.

At the national level, the NISG is engaged in critical projects like a unique ID for citizens on the lines of the social security number. We are working on the design of this project, he added. Apart from that, there has been a revival of a project that enables faster government-to-business interface. Under the department of industries, this project will offer a single window mechanism between companies and the government. The other high-impact project the NISG is working on is e-office, or paperless office.
