Agrawal’s annual salary will be $1 million, apart from which he will also receive restricted stock units valued at $12.5 million that will be vested in 16 equal quarterly increments, starting February 2022.
While still new to the position, his quick promotions and relatively young age of 37 ensures that he will move up swiftly in the area of compensation and rewards.
Agrawal, an IIT passout and a PhD in computer science from Stanford University, is succeeding one of the tech world’s top titans in Jack Dorsey.
The co-founder, who holds a 2.3% stake in the company, had been taking an annual salary of $1.4 since 2018 due to his belief in Twitter’s 'long-term value creation potential'.
Meanwhile, when it comes to other Indian-origin CEOs, 49-year-old Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google’s parent Alphabet, received $281 million in total compensation in 2019, becoming one of the biggest salary-drawers in the world.
Satya Nadella (54 years), the chairman & CEO of Microsoft, took home $43 million in the same year, while Shantanu Narayen (58 years) got $39.2 million.
Agrawal was the chief technology officer of Twitter since October 2017 after having joined the company in 2011 as a software engineer.
