Murthy calls for new IT law institute
The Institute could help in educating law makers to learn all aspects of information technology law.

BANGALORE: Infosys chief mentor N R Narayana Murthy has called for a pro-active role by the International Institute of Information Technology Law (IIIT Law) that was inaugurated on Friday at the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan.
Murthy outlined three areas in which the IIIT Law could play an important role: creating laws regarding piracy because much of software is pirated; to ensure that e-commerce is conducted according to law; and to ensure that people are not harassed by using the medium of internet. "These are the areas I would like the new Institute to look at. Software is a complex and challenging field. The new Institute could contribute a great deal," he said.
Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court Cyriac Joseph said that the Institute could help in educating law makers to learn all aspects of information technology law. He said the courts would be happy to utilise the services of the Institute in making and amending laws in the area of IT. He called for valuebased education and reduction of conflict in society.
Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy assured all help from the government and said the government would be happy to learn aspects of IT law from the Institute.
Justice B K Somashekar, chairman of the Institute and Vijayashankar member also spoke. Vijayashankar said the Institute had the objective of turning Bangalore into a global node for cyber law.
