Mumbai Indians, the Mukesh Ambani owned franchise in the Indian Premier League, has hired Prakash Iyer as its chief executive.

NEW DELHI: Mumbai Indians, the Mukesh Ambani owned franchise in the Indian Premier League, has hired Prakash Iyer as its chief executive. He will be the first formal CEO of the team, said a person familiar with the development.

Earlier, Mumbai Indians was managed by Reliance Industries executives under the supervision of the Ambanis, including Nita Ambani. Mumbai Indians and Iyer didn’t respond to emails seeking comment. Iyer is an author, motivational speaker and a leadership coach. He was previously managing director of Kimberly-Clark Lever, the company that markets the Huggies and Kotex brands in India. Before that, he was managing director and CEO of Infomedia India. He had also worked at PepsiCo, as the beverages maker’s executive director responsible for operations in South India and Sri Lanka, and then as regional vice president in China, according to his personal website.

An alumnus of IIM-Ahmedabad, Iyer started his career with Hindustan Unilever. According to his website, “he is passionate about cricket and speaks and writes extensively on motivation, leadership, teamwork and winning."
