Mumbai CA in Forbes top tax pros list
Mumbai-based CA, Tilokchand Punamchand Ostwal, has figured in the Tax Business 50 power list for '06.

MUMBAI: After Indian entrepreneurs like Lakshmi Mittal and Asim Premji proved their mettle and joined the ranks of the global rich, it’s now the turn of Indian professionals. For the first time, an Indian tax professional has figured in the global list of 50 top tax professionals published by the prestigious Forbes group’s magazine — Tax Business.
Mumbai-based chartered accountant, Tilokchand Punamchand Ostwal, has joined the league of 25-odd professionals whose name appears for the first time in the Tax Business 50 power list for 2006. The list consists of the creme of the international tax world.
Straight away jumping to the 11th position, Ostwal has joined the league of tax professionals like Jim Tobin, head of international tax of Ernst & Young, Padoa-Schioppa , finance minister of Italy, and John Samuels, vice- president of taxation of General Electric, who moved up five places this year to become the top tax professional in the world.
Forbes group, which rates the world’s top celebrities, designers, rich people and influential people, has been rating tax professionals for the last three years. ‘‘ It’s an honour to be included among such great tax experts,’’ said 53-year old Ostwal. Ostwal, known as TP among peers, is the founder and managing partner of India’s tax firm du jour. Tax Business has acknowledged TP’s contribution in the transfer pricing regime which was ushered in the country earlier this year.
