Reliance Industries chairman and managing director Mukesh Ambani and Bharti Enterprises founder and chairman Sunil Mittal have been named founding members of the newly launched AI for Good Global Commission, a global initiative of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

The commission brings together more than 40 heads of state and government, industry CEOs, technology leaders and heads of international organisations to help shape practical pathways for trusted, inclusive and responsible artificial intelligence.

Paul Kagame will serve as co-chair of the commission alongside Marc Benioff. Doreen Bogdan-Martin, secretary-general of the ITU, will be the vice-chair. A key focus of the commission will be to bridge the digital divide and ensure AI becomes a tool for addressing global challenges rather than deepening inequalities, with an estimated 2.2 billion people still offline and unable to benefit fully from AI-driven advances. The commission will hold its inaugural meeting during the AI for Good Global Summit 2026, scheduled to be held in Geneva from July 7 to 10.
