Motorola CEO Jha settled for lower take home in 2009

CHICAGO: Mobile phone maker Motorola's India-born chief Sanjay Jha, who was recently named America's top paid CEO after he received a total payout of over 104 million dollars in 2008, has settled for a far lower annual pay of 3.77 million dollars in 2009.

In a regulatory filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Motorola today said Jha, its Co-Chief Executive Officer and Chief Executive Officer for mobile devices and home business took a base salary of 905,769 dollars in 2009.

He also took home a bonus of 1.2 million dollars, stock awards of 1.34 million dollars and other compensation and perks of 323,366 dollars last year.

In 2008, Jha's total package was 104. 44 million dollars that included a base salary of 484,615 dollars, stock awards of 33.85 million dollars, option awards of 69.69 million dollars and other compensation of 412,096 dollars.

Jha and co-CEO Greg Brown had both declined their bonuses for 2008, in the wake of the company's hard times and job cuts in a weak economy.

The two also voluntarily cut their 2009 salaries by 25 per cent.

In late 2008, Jha voluntarily agreed to reduce his base salary for 2009 by 25 per cent from 1,200,000 dollars to 900,000 dollars.
