According to reports, Mistry submitted a resignation letter dated June 30 to the board of RNT Associates, stating that he would step down as a director with effect from July 1. He reportedly cited "preoccupation with my other commitments" as the reason for his resignation.

Neither RNT Associates nor Mistry has publicly commented on the development.
Incorporated in 2009, RNT Associates serves as the principal investment vehicle through which Ratan Tata made investments in his personal capacity. According to public investment databases and media reports, the investment office has backed several of India's best-known startups, including BlueStone, Ola Electric, CarDekho, Moglix, Urban Company, Lenskart, Cure. fit, CashKaro and FirstCry.
Over the past decade, RNT Associates has emerged as one of India's most prominent family investment offices, supporting entrepreneurs across sectors including consumer technology, ecommerce, mobility, healthcare, sustainability and enterprise technology. Many of its portfolio companies have subsequently achieved unicorn status or gone public, reinforcing Ratan Tata's reputation as one of India's most influential startup investors.

Mistry has long been regarded as one of the most influential yet low-profile figures within the Tata ecosystem. A chartered accountant by training, he worked closely with Ratan Tata for several decades and served on the boards of multiple Tata Group companies. Beyond his formal roles, he was widely seen as one of Tata's closest advisers on governance, investments and strategic matters.
Following Ratan Tata's death, Mistry was named as one of the executors of his will, placing him among the small group entrusted with administering the industrialist's estate.
