Mallya plans to bring son into business in 2 years

Vijaya Mallya had acquired Glassgow-based scotch maker in 2007 for 595 million pounds. The company is working towards bringing some of its international brands into India.

NEW DELHI: Hinting at his succession plan, UB Group Chairman Vijay Mallya has said he will bring his son Siddhartha into the business in a couple of years.

"...like all my businesses, I have a road map for him (Siddhartha) as well. By the time he is 24, I will bring him back here to start off the business," UB Group Chairman Vijay Mallya said in an interview to a news channel.

He said his son is currently working with Diageo and he intends to send him to work for Whyte & Mackay to gain international exposure before bringing him back to India.

"My intention is to put him next in Whyte & Mackay in UK to gain some international exposure. Then he is coming back... by the time he is 24, I will bring him back," Mallya said.

He said there was a similar road map for himself planned by his dad.

"... that is the best thing that my dad did for me, so I am doing it for Siddhartha as well," Mallya added.
