Poddar is currently serving his gardening leave and is expected to formally exit the firm by the end of January.
This marks the second senior-level departure from Macquarie's India operations in recent months. In December, Deep Gupta, managing director at Macquarie India, stepped down after spending nearly 18 years with the group, underscoring a phase of leadership churn at the Australia-headquartered asset manager's India franchise.
Poddar joined Macquarie in 2018 as part of its asset management business and later assumed additional responsibilities as country head for the Macquarie Group in India.
Over the years, he played a key role in building and scaling several institutional investment platforms in the country, particularly across infrastructure, renewable energy and the broader energy transition ecosystem.
A Macquarie spokesperson did not respond to an email seeking comment. Poddar declined to comment.
An alumnus of Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, Poddar spent nearly 18 years with AT Kearney, where he was a senior partner before joining Macquarie.
He was involved in the creation and growth of platforms such as Stride Climate Investments and Vibrant Energy, which focus on sustainable and clean energy assets. He was also instrumental in Macquarie's investment in Vertelo, one of the largest financial sponsor-led investments in India's electric vehicle ecosystem.
